The Fascinating Story of a Chinese Cemetary

November 17, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Come explore Chinese history alongside historian Anna Fahy as we learn about Chinese burial traditions.

Did you know that El Paso has the only Chinese Cemetery in the State of Texas? Over the past 27 years, Anna Fahy has researched the rich history of the Chinese in the Borderlands. We invite you to come explore and participate in this discussion of Chinese history alongside us. In the discussion, you will learn about Chinese burial traditions, how their cemetery came into existence, and the importance of preserving this unique El Paso historical treasure. Chinese Proverb: “Life is a dream walking, death is going home…”

Itinerary:

  • Meet at the north entrance of the cemetery on Yandell Drive. Wear long pants and closed-toed shoes to prevent cuts and scrapes from the desert terrain.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings and footing; please wear comfortable shoes, a hat, use sunblock and take water to stay hydrated.
  • After the tour, walk across to L&J’s and join us for a no-host lunch!
  • Questions? Please call us at 915-533-0048
