The City of El Paso Department of Public Health is celebrating Breastfeeding Awareness Month under the theme “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for working parents.” They are inviting families to attend the upcoming Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Breastfeeding Educational Fairs, which will be hosted at various WIC center locations.
The WIC Breastfeeding Fairs will offer information, games, and activities centered around breastfeeding for mothers, children, and the whole family. Below is the schedule of the fairs:
– August 2 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at 1757 George Dieter Dr.
– August 3 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at 3707 Pershing Dr.
– August 10 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at 110 Candelaria St.
– August 11 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at 5195 Mace St.
The WIC program provides services to support families who wish to breastfeed or provide breastmilk to their children. These services include nutrition education classes, a monthly allowance of healthy food and baby formula, breastfeeding support (including teleconsulting from lactation consultants, breastfeeding classes, one-on-one support, an after-hours breastfeeding warm line, and supplies such as breast pumps), and 24/7 breastfeeding support through the Texas Lactation Support Hotline.
This year's theme focuses on understanding the impact of the workplace environment from the parents' perspective. It calls for a collective effort from community health workers, policymakers, employers, and communities to empower and support families and create and maintain breastfeeding-friendly environments. #NationalBreastfeedingMonth
