The El Paso Mineral and Gem Society was organized for the purpose of promoting a widespread interest in the study and collecting of rocks and minerals. This includes the study and promotion of lapidary work in order to bring out the hidden beauties of nature for the edification of mankind. The El Paso Mineral & Gem Society School is an integral part of the El Paso Mineral and Gem Society. The instructors are all volunteers and receive no compensation for their time or instruction. The school teaches not only lapidary but also silversmithing , faceting, lost wax casting and precious metal clay to enhance the student's lapidary items. There is also a creative arts class where students can learn various related crafts such as wire wrapping and beading when scheduled.
