Walking tours that showcase the places of South-Central (including Ascarate Park and
the El Paso County Coliseum) and Segundo Barrio. They are: a Pachuco History Tour,
Musical El Paso, and El Paso’s African American History.
Celebrating the history of this area also provides the County an opportunity to expand its tourism
programing by recognizing and preserving our unique border heritage that reflects our culture
and our values. These historic neighborhoods help to tell the story of El Paso’s urbanization
which has developed into the community we know today as many El Pasoans living in the far
ends of the County trace their roots to South El Paso, as do people around the country and even
the world.
Residents continue to commemorate and celebrate their history in many ways including murals
found throughout neighborhoods, cultural festivals such as the Lincoln Park Car Shows,
academic conferences, exhibits in museums and in community spaces, and by frequenting
restaurants that are uniquely El Paso (L&J’s, Good Luck Café, Chico’s Tacos).
