SISD Special Meeting

April 8 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The Socorro ISD Board of Trustees is holding a Special Meeting 5:30 pm Monday, April 8th at its central office board room 12440
Rojas to consider the selection and appointment of the Interim Superintendent. Under Texas law, there is not a specific requirement to appoint an interim superintendent, and the interim superintendent doesn’t even need to be a certified educator. https://www.tasb.org/…/interim-and-acting….
Recent previous interim superintendents for SISD have included an internal auditor, assistant superintendent and the chief financial officer. Districts often appoint an interim superintendent to facilitate the flow of district business.
With a Deputy Superintendent, an Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, three Assistant Superintendents of Schools, a Chief Academic Officer, and a a Chief Innovation Officer, along with many other high ranking employees, there is no shortage of people who could step up, and take the extra pay that will come with that interim role. https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/…/2023-24…
Each position has a unique job description but the most interesting to look at is item 24 on the job description for Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, which states, “Seeks community support for bond issues, tax issues, and other referents that support the district’s goals and objectives”
To this author, if item 24 were fulfilled, it would appear to be a violation of the Texas Election Code, which is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
While I know tonight’s business before the board is all about the Interim Superintendent, I would encourage the board to revisit this job description before any bond or tax elections. By the way, if you are unable to attend in person and prefer to watch, here is the link.
