Geronimo’s Cave Field Trip

Hike to and explore the legendary Geronimo’s Cave in the Robledo Mountains north of Las Cruces. Geronimo’s Cave is one hiking spot in the Robledo Mountains that carries a great deal of history. In the 1800s, as Geronimo was being pursued by U.S. soldiers, he is said to have escaped to this cave.
Meet at 8 AM at the Kohls parking area at 5680 N Desert Blvd., I-10 and Redd Road area (MAP). With the group, leave promptly at 8:05 AM. It is an hour’s drive to the trail head. Or you may meet us at the trail head at 9 am.
The 3-4 miles roundtrip hike is rated as moderate with some rocky sections along an arroyo. Bring 2 liters of water, snacks, sturdy hiking boot/shoes, and a flashlight,

Driving directions to the trail head: Take I-10 West to I-25 North to Exit 19, Radium Springs exit. At the stop sign turn Left onto Fort Seldon Road. At the junction, turn LEFT onto N Valley Road. Drive 1.4 miles and turn right onto a small dirt road, HayRide Road (a small sign is on the left). Travel 0.4 mile and turn left onto the levee road. Travel 0.3 mile +/- and pull off the levee to the right and park on the flat.
