Las Cruces Museum Fall Break

The Las Cruces Museum System will host free, drop-in activities Tuesday through Friday, September 27 through October 7, during the Las Cruces Public School’s Fall Break. Programs will take place each day from 10am – 12pm. Visitors can earn a limited edition museum badge by participating in at least one day’s activities. Admission to the museum and programs is free.
Facilitated badge activities will take place at a different museum each day the first week of Fall Break:
•Tuesday, September 27 at the Museum of Art, 491 N. Main Street.
Stop by the gallery to talk with a curator about the exhibition, make self-portraits in our drawing studio, mold clay sculptures in our ceramics studio, and fold origami crafts in our mixed media studio. These activities can also be applied to the “Art Explosion” elective adventure in the Cub Scout program which can help scouts earn the Webelos and Arrow of Light badges.
•Wednesday, September 28 at the Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main Street.
Explore the Solar System with activities that teach about the planets, stars, and beyond! Activities support the Space Science Girl Scout Badges for Daisies through Juniors and Out of this World Cub Scout Award.
•Thursday, September 29 at the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street
Discover pottery at the Branigan Cultural Center on Thursday, September 29. Learn about Pueblo pottery and different types of ceramics. Experience pottery making processes and create your own piece! Then practice glazing/coating by designing your own miniature pot. Activities support the “Potter” Girl Scouts Brownie badge.
•Friday, September 30 at the Railroad Museum, 351 N. Mesilla Street.
Design, build, and test miniature cars. Experiment with forces like gravity and friction, safety in transportation, and practice thinking like an engineer! Activities can be applied to Daisy and Brownie Mechanical Engineering badges.
Visitors are invited to return to all four museums during the second week of Fall Break for special self-guided activities and experiences at all four museums October 4 – 7 from 10am – 12pm.
