The impact of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) on cancer patients cannot be underestimated, with a staggering 60% of patients facing adverse effects. To tackle this issue, Texas Oncology and the American Cancer Society are taking proactive steps by organizing a community collaborative discussion and vendor fair.
This free event aims to delve into the needs and barriers faced by community members in accessing cancer care and treatment due to SDOH. By assessing these challenges, the discussion seeks to identify potential solutions and available resources that can help address these needs effectively. Through this collaborative effort, stakeholders from various backgrounds, including healthcare professionals, community leaders, and individuals affected by cancer, will come together to brainstorm and create actionable strategies. By fostering dialogue and cooperation, the event hopes to pave the way for a more inclusive and supportive environment for cancer patients, ensuring that they receive the holistic care and support they need to navigate the challenges posed by SDOH. The panel discussion topics will include:
• Barriers to obtaining oncologic care
• Community agencies addressing the social determinant health needs of oncologic patients
• Mental health providers available to address the psychological needs of oncologic patients
