Garlic 1%…This will be El Paso’s first Korean restaurant focused on healthy, fermented foods like housemade kimchi, black garlic, and soybean-free paste.
While driving down George Dieter to Marhalika’s Filipino Market, I discovered Garlic1%, a brand-new Korean restaurant coming to El Paso! It’s not open yet (still getting permits) but is set to debut in 3 weeks!
The owners shared their heartfelt story: both lost spouses to cancer, and one, an Army veteran of 20+ years, was inspired to create healthier options for his kids after losing his wife. Now, they’re on a mission to bring nutritious, bold Korean flavors to the Borderland!
What makes Garlic1% even more exciting? Their dedication to flavor without MSG by using natural alternatives!
Here are some MSG-free flavor enhancers they might use, and you can try at home too:
Seaweed – Adds umami and nutrients. Great for broths and soups!
Mushroom Powder – Boosts savory flavor in sauces and stews.
Tomato Paste – Rich, natural sweetness perfect for hearty dishes.
Miso Paste – Probiotic-packed for soups and marinades.
Nutritional Yeast – A cheesy, nutty flavor ideal for pasta and popcorn.
Garlic & Ginger – Brighten dishes and add warmth.
Fermented foods and MSG-free cooking are part of a growing health movement, and we’re about to reap the benefits right here in El Paso. Garlic1% is bringing more than delicious food—they’re championing a better way to eat!
Location: 1475 George Dieter Dr #L2, El Paso, TX 79936.
