Highly Infectious Stomach Virus on the Rise…

I’ve been keeping an eye on this virus because it hit my friends in Dallas really hard, and I know a lot of people here have started to feel the symptoms. It should really be called the “OH NO” virus! 😱 Why? Because hand sanitizers don’t work against it! You need to wash your hands with soap and water to stop the spread. 🚨
A highly contagious stomach virus, known as norovirus, is making the rounds in our community. 🤢 This “winter stomach bug” spreads easily through contaminated food, surfaces, and person-to-person contact.
Dr. Armando Meza from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center emphasizes that washing your hands with soap and water is crucial—hand sanitizer isn’t enough! 🧼
Symptoms can hit within hours and may include:
– Nausea
– Vomiting
– Diarrhea
– Stomach cramps
– Fever
– Headache
– Body aches
Most cases last just 1-2 days, but you can remain contagious as long as symptoms persist. If you experience severe symptoms or can’t keep fluids down, it’s important to seek medical help! 💧
Remember, this virus can linger on surfaces for days, so disinfecting your home is key! 🧴 While masks aren’t necessary, personal hygiene and reducing exposure are your best defenses.
