Looking for a unique night out in El Paso?

This past Saturday, my friend Mel surprised me for my birthday with a night at Monteleone’s Dinner Theater for Funeral for a Gangster
I had no idea what to expect—I’d never been to a local dinner theater before, and I usually look up movie endings ahead of time because I hate suspense!

When I arrived, I found myself in a quiet neighborhood where Monteleone’s owns a series of houses. Parking was wherever you could find a spot. The atmosphere outside was casual, with guests milling around until the hostess called our reservation name. Once inside, the decor was super cool, full of oddities and curiosities—I wish we had more time to explore before the show started! And pro tip: check out the men’s restroom if you get a chance… trust me, it’s wild!

From the moment we sat down, the experience started, with the actors treating us like we were guests at a funeral. Our waiter was super nice and took our drink orders, which included sodas, lemonade, Arnold Palmers, and alcoholic drinks for an upcharge.
As we ate, the actors moved around, weaving a murder mystery involving the deceased’s wife and sons. The performers were fun and engaging, but honestly, it was hard to follow the story because of loud music coming from the bar area. There were notes and pens on the table, but it wasn’t clear how we were supposed to participate.

The food came out quickly:

My friends, who have been to a few of these dinners, said the pacing felt slower than usual, but overall, it was still a fun and interactive experience! I wasn’t super invested in solving the mystery, but I loved the entertainment and the kitchsy vibe. The actors even stuck around afterward for photos and autographs, which was a nice touch.
If you’re looking for something different to do in El Paso, this is definitely worth checking out!

Go check them out and support local!
