Don’t Let El Paso Lose Out on a Bright Future!
Urgent Call to Action for El Pasoans! We need your voice now more than ever! The potential closure of the Bridge of the Americas to commercial traffic could have devastating effects on our city. This is not just about trade; it’s about our livelihoods, our families, and the future of El Paso. What other industry is as crucial to our economy as trade? If we don’t act, we risk losing our position as a vital trade hub, and with it, countless jobs and opportunities for our community.
Please, take a moment to email the GSA and express your concerns. They are accepting comments on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) through November 4. Your voice matters! Email your thoughts to:
Let’s come together to stop this threat to El Paso!
We’re at a crucial crossroads. As we consider the potential closure of the Bridge of the Americas to big trucks, we must acknowledge the legitimate risk of missing out on incredible opportunities. Surrounding towns like Santa Teresa and Presidio are poised to capitalize on the biggest logistics boom in history, transferring wealth and trade from Asia to Mexico.
If we close our bridge, we risk losing our position as a key player in this trade network. Our tax base won’t grow while our neighbors thrive. Let’s not be short-sighted!
I propose a Good Neighbor Policy to support our community while keeping the bridge open. Closing the bridge to commercial traffic forever is like cutting a major artery—El Paso won’t recover, and that’s a future we should fear.
Additionally, I believe that Option A1 is the best choice for the future of our bridge. This plan will modernize the bridge while allowing for safe and efficient commercial traffic, ensuring we remain competitive in the logistics arena.
My Good Neighbor Policy includes:
- Limiting truck idling – Ensuring truck bays are at least 300 feet away from homes
- Directing lighting downwards to reduce light pollution – Implementing designated truck routes to minimize congestion
- Holding regular community meetings for feedback
- Conducting environmental assessments for air quality and noise – Encouraging sustainable practices among trucking companies
- Developing clear emergency plans for truck-related incidents
We can also adjust impact fees and implement carbon offsets to ensure sustainability without sacrificing our trade capacity. We don’t need to kill our golden goose!
Remember, our city’s lifeblood is trade. What else is El Paso known for besides being a vital border crossing? Let’s keep our bridge open and our economy thriving!
