El Paso KIDS-N-CO. opens its season with the re-imagining of a beloved fairy tale. With a dark, scary forest, a big bad wolf, and an old lady who lives in the forest.
“In the Red Forest: A Riding Hood Tale,” opens on Oct. 6 and continues weekends through Oct. 22, on the campus of First Presbyterian Church, 1340 Murchison. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $7 and $10, at the door.
Written and directed by Mia Carreon, the story starts in a small village next to the Red Forest, where a teenaged heroine emerges. Draped in her signature red hood, Amaryllis finds herself discovering the truth behind the rumored “Big, Bad” wolf and the mysterious relative of hers that lives beyond the forest.
Will the secret break the bond she has with her elder brother? Does Victor, the hunter, have any sort of chance to win her heart? Who do the debt collectors serve? Every answer lies within the red forest, as red as her riding hood and the hair atop her head. Twists and turns abound in this re-telling of the classic story.
