Have you heard about El Paso County's plan to ask voters for a whopping $350 million in bond debt this November for a total spend of $850 million???It's a hot topic, and some folks are calling it a “boondoggle.” One of the projects I saw in a presentation they want to fund is a fancy bridge with lights for a small lake at Ascarate Park. Sounds extravagant, right?
But here's the thing: shouldn't we focus on maintaining what we already have? We could invest in cameras to prevent vandalism and allocate funds for park patrols. That way, we keep the park in great shape without splurging millions on projects that might disrupt park goers for years. And guess what? It'll all come out of our pockets through taxes.
Speaking of taxes, did you know that county officials recently gave themselves a 60% raise since 2020? Yep, now they're some of the highest-paid officials in the state. It almost feels like they're trying to justify their raise by hiking up taxes and claiming they've accomplished something while in office.

It's important to be informed, especially since we have two county commissioner seats up for election this year: County Commissioner #1 and #3. Let them know if you're against another tax increase. After all, they did it last year despite people protesting.
