There's a big reason why I'm not on TikTok! 
The company has admitted that employees in China accessed the data of U.S. users, specifically journalists reporting on company leaks. This incident is currently being investigated by the Justice Department. 
The Chinese government has been making efforts to locate pro-democracy activists and individuals openly critical of Beijing's policies in America. They are also trying to suppress their freedom of speech. While it is believed that China operates secretive police outposts in various countries, the recent arrests made by the Justice Department are the first of their kind worldwide. 
There was a secret FAKE police station in New York City with officers from China's national police force, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. They were also using social media to harass dissidents within the United States. 
China has broadened its efforts to arrest foreigners for espionage, with authorities having the power to intervene in anything they consider relevant to national security. This is a further toughening of the law that has already been used against expatriates and Chinese contacts. 
The House has passed a bill that poses the most serious threat to TikTok to date. If the bill becomes law, it would require the app's Chinese owner to sell it or face a ban on U.S. app stores. TikTok poses national security risks because its parent company, ByteDance, is based in Beijing. They fear that American user data could be exposed to Chinese government surveillance, AGAIN. Chinese law allows the government to obtain inside information from companies based in China for alleged national security purposes. President Joe Biden has expressed his willingness to sign the bill if it reaches his desk. The bill passed in the House by a vote of 352 to 65, with one member voting present.
